Take a wide stance

Leaning towards your toes or your heels will determine the direction the skateboard moves in

Great for when you are moving fast and/or have a lot of space

tic-tac

Apply weight to your back foot to release some weight from your front foot

Use your shoulders to pivot the skateboard

Great for quick turns and when you don't have much space
