Enuff Academy
STANCE & PUSHING
In this Enuff Academy, Geoff will be teaching you the basics of riding - how to stand and how to push on a skateboard.
We'd like to say a big thank you to ATBShop Skate Warehouse for letting us film in their park and Geoff from Rubicon for his time and expertise.
HOW TO STAND & HOW TO PUSH ON A SKATEBOARD
WORKING OUT YOUR SKATING STANCE
Definitions:
Left foot forward = regular stance.
Right foot forward = goofy stance.
WORK OUT YOUR STANCE WITH the push test
The push test helps to find out your strong foot, this will be the foot that goes at the front of the skateboard, while your back foot will sit on the tail.
To do this, stand up straight, imagine that someone has pushed you forward; whichever foot you put out to stop yourself is your strong foot.
No stance is superior to the other.
HOW TO PUSH ON A SKATEBOARD
Definitions:
Pushing with your back foot = regular pushing.
Pushing with your front foot = mongo pushing.
WHY YOU DON’T WANT TO PUSH MONGO
Unlike with stance, one way of pushing is superior to the other, so try and avoid mongo pushing as it is less effective and takes more steps to set-up tricks.
BEST WAY TO PUSH ON A SKATEBOARD
The best way to push on a skateboard is regular.
So to do this, you’ll want to start with your strong foot on the front bolts pointing forward and push with your rear foot, ensuring you keep your weight forwards.
When you are ready to coast, place your back foot straight onto the tail, that way you’ll be set-up for tricks.
NOW GO PRACTISE!
